Water Scientifically Heals: The Blue Mind

Inspired by Blue Mind: The Surprising Science That Shows How Being Near, In, On, or Under Water Can Make You Happier, Healthier, More Connected, and Better at What You Do, a book by Wallace Nichols, the goal is to get more people and specifically younger people on the water through activities such as surfing, sailing, kayaking, paddleboarding, beach volleyball and more.

I’ve grown up close to the ocean and lived near one my whole life. The ocean is a place I go to when I want to clear my head, get creative, or just relax. I love water sports and being in the water in general, so surfing with my friends and doing free swims around the buoys makes me feel at home. H2O Lyfe not only gives me the opportunity to do things that I love, it gives me the opportunity to share them with others. I hope to help kids in our community find a place of peace and balance in the water, because that is what it has done for me.

Growing up in the SouthBay and being close to the ocean has always been a big part of my life. During the summer as a kid, my mom would take us to the beach every day, all day! Still to this day I love getting in the ocean!

Being in or around water has always put my overall mental state in a better place. Now when I just feel like I need to clear my head I will go on a beach run. I find so much happiness and peace being by the water.

My family introduced me to the powerful presence of being near and in the water at an early age. From being on our boat regularly in Lake Havasu to living close to the beach, water has always been a big part of my life. It’s provided me some of my best life memories. H2O Lyfe is my opportunity to give back to the community by introducing teens and young adults to the various water activities available. My mission aligns with H2O Lyfe, to provide HOPE on the water so everyone understands tomorrow can be better.

Growing up in the South Bay, I’ve been blessed to say that the water has played a huge role in my life. From relaxing summer beach days with friends to long boat rides on the search for that fish of a lifetime. Escaping the “real world” and going to watch the sunset or just being on a boat in the middle of the ocean have been some of my ways of rinsing off lyfe and living the Blue Mind. H2O Lyfe allows me to not just share the Blue Mind with others, but also to share the stoke that comes with it.

Loving water since I can remember, I find myself most at peace when on a surfboard or on the beach with friends.

When life gets tough, I often go to water, whether it's the beach, a river, or pond that let's me find peace and reflect.
